Walkabout

I and a couple of friends went to The Walkabout on Whyte yesterday for wings. The wings were great, but the service was decidedly not. It took probably half an hour for anyone to take our drink order, that again for them to come back for a food order, and at least another half hour before the food was there. I would have understood if the place was busy, but because it's reading week and everyone has gone home, place place was nearly deserted. Regardless, the food was good if slow to arrive.

I had a pint of Keith's but it tasted a bit off. I don't know if it was the end of the keg, or if I was given the wrong beer, but it didn't taste like Keith's generally does.

No picture; it was too dark to get any sort of image.

Bulldog

We went to Julio's Barrio on Whyte this afternoon for nachos. I had a bulldog, specifically a Bloodhound. Not the best of their bulldogs, in my opinion, but far from bad. I'll have to try the others eventually.

The nachos were incredible, as usual.

Bloodhound:
1        Stella Artois
1    oz Spiced Rum
1/2 oz Absolut Mandrin Vodka
1/2 oz Raspberry SourPuss
          Raspberry Slush

The rum flavour came through more than I expected, which is normally a good thing but in this case didn't really go the best with the sourness. The flavour of the Stella was completely masked, which is unsurprising, but too bad.

The picture quality is poor mostly because I'm taking the picture on my phone. It was also pretty dark, but the drink is somewhat visible.

The Kraken

I recently bought a new rum based almost entirely on the label. Giant sea monster on the bottle? yeah, I'll buy that. The Kraken Black Spiced Rum is a product of Lawrenceburg, IN. and is surprisingly good. I'm usually not a huge fan of spiced rums, but I'm definitely glad I gave this one a shot. I recommend trying it, but I have no idea how easy it would be to find, as I've only ever seen it in the one store, namely Sherbrooke Liquor on Groat Road. They have an incredible selection of beers as well.

I'd say that The Kraken was definitely worth a try, but I doubt it's going to replace my standard rum on a regular basis. The down side of unique stuff is the added cost, and I'm too starving a student to make that kind of expense a regular one. Regardless, I'm happy with it.

Guinness

The first beer I'm going to talk about is a favourite of mine: Guinness. Many people don't like it, and I admit it's an acquired taste. Once you get used to the flavour and the much smoother feel compared to other beers, however, Guinness soon shoots right up to the top of the list.

Not much else to say about it. Guinness is delicious.
